
There are two pony clubs at Wellsfield.
The Pony Club
Wellsfield Equestrian Centre is a registered Pony Club Centre in Central Scotland.
The club meets weekly on Tuesday evenings 5pm-9pm.
The Pony Club is an international voluntary youth organisation for youngsters interested in ponies and riding. It was founded in England in 1929 and is now represented in 18 countries and has a membership exceeding 110,477. It is the largest association of riders in the world. A majority of the most successful riders in all disciplines of British equestrian competition have been Members of The Pony Club.
The objectives are:
- To encourage young people to ride and to learn to enjoy all kinds of sport connected with horses and riding
- To give instruction in riding and horsemastership and to educate Members to look after and to take proper care of their animal
- To promote the highest ideals of sportsmanship, citizenship and loyalty to create strength of character and self-discipline
Membership is available to anyone below the age of 21.
Wellsfield Scruffy Pony Club
The Scruffy Pony Club is our own junior saddle pony club and provides young people with a fun opportunity to learn all about horses and everything to do with them in a group environment.
The club meets weekly on Friday evenings 6pm-8pm.
Topics including stable management, horse education, tacking up, grooming, feeding, bedding down, watching the farrier shoeing the horses, quizzes and certificates.
The Aims of the Scruffy Pony Club:
- To learn how to work around ponies safely
- To learn how to groom effectively
- To learn why it is important to maintain a high standard of grooming
- To learn basic colours and markings
- To learn the difference between feeds and why we feed what we do to different horses or ponies
- To learn about different beddings and ways to keep horses
- To learn the basics about tacking and what to check and look for when tacking up a pony.
- To learn the different parts of the pony
- To develop a keen understanding of tack and why and how we use it
- To have fun when working with ponies in a safe and competent way
